If you're looking to become a Driving Instructor or are already qualified and want to prepare for your Standards Check Test or have failed it and want some help then here at Julie Murphy's Driving School we pride ourselves in providing high quality Driving Instructor Training with great pass rates.
The qualifying process to become a Driving Instructor can seem very daunting, but our school help you to achieve your ultimate goal. We support you through the process, initially as a Pdi (potential driving instructor) providing you with all you need to know - not only to pass, but to teach real pupils.
We offer Driving Instructor training on a pay as you go basis, so you don't need to pay out large sums of money up front only to find you are not happy with progress. We don't run big advertising campaigns either as we rely on our reputation, so we strive to achieve the best results at all times.
Once you've qualified, there are opportunities to join our Driving School, which is the largest independent Driving school in the Swindon, Wiltshire area. We pride ourselves in having a great team of instructors, some of which were trained by the school. We maintain a very professional, but friendly approach to working together, meeting regularly for CPD (continual personal development) and to be social. There are many benefits to working for us, with some very unique opportunities like working at Castle Combe Race Circuit training young drivers or carrying out driving assessments for Honda in Swindon, as well as teaching learners of course!
Here is some information on each of the three tests to qualify:
The test takes around 1 hour 45 minutes and includes the following, which have to be passed at the same time:-

The examiner will provide the sat nav and set it up for you.
You can’t follow directions from your own sat nav during the test.
Your test result won’t be affected if you take a wrong turning, unless you make a fault while doing it.
The examiner will help you get back on the route if you do.
If you can’t see a traffic sign (for example, because it’s covered by trees), the examiner will give you directions until you can see the next one.
You’ll be asked 5 vehicle safety questions known as the ‘show me, tell me’ questions. These test that you know how to carry out basic safety tasks.
You’ll be asked:
You’ll get a driving fault for each incorrect answer you give.
You’ll get a serious fault and fail the test if you answer all 5 questions incorrectly, or if you lose control of the car while answering any of the ‘show me’ questions.
Your pupil can be a learner or a full licence holder. They can’t be
an Adi or someone preparing to take the part 3 test.
The examiner will look for evidence that you meet the national standard for driver and rider training.
You’ll be marked on 17 areas of competence that are grouped into 3 categories:
The 17 areas of competence are listed in the ADI part 3 test report form, which the examiner will fill in at the end of your test.
You’ll get a score from 0 to 3 for each of the 17 competencies, which are added up to work out if you’ve passed the test, and what your grade will be.

'This qualification process has been in equal measure, the best fun, the most frustrating, the most gut wrenching process I have ever gone through. One thing is for sure it that if it wasn't for Julie, I would have given up months ago. Julie has been the most brilliant trainer with the patience of a saint and determination of a ring fighter to get me through this final test. Yes it has been frustrating dealing with my own doubts but not once has Julie given up on me. Not only has she trained me to her standards (well above those expected from the DVSA) she has given me a career and job satisfaction never experienced in my whole working life. I am so proud to have her name on the roof of my car as I move to this next chapter.'
'Julie’s training and advice for parts 2 and 3 have been invaluable, her time is worth every penny.'
'I cannot speak more highly of this lovely person and brilliant teacher. If I become half the ADI she is, I will be proud. Thank you so much Julie.'
