PASS PLUS is a training scheme for new drivers. It's much more than just a few extra lessons. This specially designed course helps you:
- gain valuable driving experience safely
you will be taught how to deal with a wide range of road and traffic situations, many of which you probably won't have faced before - build on your existing skills and knowledge
it can take years to become a skilled driver. PASS PLUS helps get you there by speeding up the learning process under expert tuition - reduce your risk of being in a road crash
the course will help boost your awareness of all kinds of hazards and help you learn how to anticipate, plan for and deal with them safely - save money on car insurance premiums
Naturally, you will have to pay for the course. Ask us about the costs of our PASS PLUS packages. Bear in mind too that it will take a minimum of six hours, all of which need to be taken after passing your test. When you have successfully completed the course, you are advised to check available discounts offered by the insurance companies taking part in the scheme. - boost your confidence

PASS PLUS consists of six practical modules which cover driving in town, in all weathers, on rural roads, at night, on dual carriageways and on motorways. You can take it at any time within the first 12 month of passing your test.
There is no test at the end of it – your driving will be continually assessed and you must successfully complete all the modules in the course to an achieved or exceeded standard:
- achieved – successfully reached the standard required for each of the competencies
- exceeded – exceeded the required standard for each of the competencies
Claiming a car insurance discount after completing Pass Plus
When you have successfully completed your Pass Plus training course you'll be sent a Pass Plus certificate from the Driving Standards Agency (DSA). You’ll be able to use this certificate to claim your motor insurance discount.
Why your Pass Plus certificate is important
Your Pass Plus certificate is written proof that you’ve passed the Pass Plus course. Once you’ve received it, you will be able to claim your discount on your motor car insurance policy.
Checking for discounts on your car insurance
DSA advises you to check for available discounts offered by insurance companies to drivers who have completed their Pass Plus course.
The amount you can save will depend on the insurance company you choose.
Insurers who support Pass Plus offer discounts on the three main types of motor insurance cover:
- comprehensive
- third party, fire and theft
- third party only
If you do not have a car at the moment, you may be able to defer the discount for up to two years, but you would need to check with your insurance company.
If you passed your practical driving test more than a year ago, check that you will be eligible for the discount on offer from your insurance company before you take the course.
You should check which company offers you the best discount. You could save more money on your insurance than you actually paid for your Pass Plus course, effectively getting your training for nothing.
When you contact the insurers, you need to check that a Pass Plus discount is available to you.
